A new Corona, a deep shadow for the local game industry.

The fallout of the new strain of coronavirus spreading around the world is casting a shadow on the local game industry as well.

The opening match of the e-Sports will be turned into an indifferent game, and the "2020 Taipei Game Show," which was scheduled to be held from June 6 to 9, has been postponed until the summer. Most of all, industries are worried that the new Koronavirus will be a variable, expecting the lifting of the Korea-U.S. ordinance on the occasion of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Korea scheduled for the first half of the year.

First, the "2020 Woori Bank LoL Champions Korea Spring" and the "2020 LoL Challengers Korea Spring," which will open on May 5, will be played indefinitely without any consideration.

"The decision was made as a preemptive precaution to protect the health and safety of athletes, spectators and officials," said Riot Games recently.

No time has been set for the economy to be lifted without a hitch, and the government plans to provide frequent guidance on measures that will be applied flexibly to changing circumstances.

"We are closely monitoring the situation regarding the new Koronavirus," a Ryat Games official said. "The spring season schedule may change depending on the situation."

The match between Korea and the U.S. has also been decided on Thursday when they will take part in the "Public Paper Global Series (PGS. The pub holding company also announced on the 31st that the selection process for the Korean national team (in relation to the spread of the new coronavirus) will be carried out as a zero-tolerance match, and that the broadcast will be available on official channels of Africa TV, Twitch, Naver TV and YouTube starting on the 9th.

The Taipei Game Show, which was scheduled to be held on Thursday, has been postponed until the summer. Late last month, the organizing committee for the Taipei game show notified local companies, including Nexon, NCsoft and Smilegate, of the postponement of the event.

The delay of the Taipei Game Show is regrettable for Korean companies amid a prolonged absence of China’s Pan Ho (Game Permit) and the growing importance of Taiwan’s market.

■"Understanding the Korean law, putting it on the back burner...’ tactile sense

Most of all, Korean game companies are worried about the lifting of the Korean ban. If the situation continues for a long time, it will likely be put on the back burner with Chinese President Xi Jinping's postponement of his visit to Seoul.

As of midnight on Thursday, the cumulative number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in mainland China was 17,205 and the death toll exceeded 361. As China is the source of the new virus, Xi is conducting an all-out war in the face of a national emergency.

In particular, with major overseas institutions including the Center for Epidemiological Control at the University of Hong Kong predicting that the virus will peak between late April and early May, President Xi's expected visit to Korea this spring as well as the issue of Panho could be put on the back burner.

Since late last year, there has been a positive mood in the Korean game industry for the resumption of the issue. It was hoped that President Xi’s gift to Korea would include the lifting of the Korea-U.S. decree. However, a dark cloud seems to be hanging over the unexpected strain of the new Koronavirus again in China.

"If Xi’s visit to Korea fails due to the situation in Shinjong Korona, we will not be able to resolve the issue for a while." said a representative for an industry.
